Animals living on the street can easily become injured. A territorial fight with another dog can cause a puncture wound, a speeding bike can fracture a limb, and poor nutrition and stress can lead to conditions like mange and other illnesses. Many animals are fed by the community, but they are very rarely pet or handled and they are usually not allowed inside the house. This means that an animal with an infected wound, or who has become sick and stopped eating is often unnoticed until their condition has become serious. The stress of living on the street and having to search for food throughout the day and avoid traffic also worsens health problems. Every time we rescue an animal, we provide information and raise awareness so that animals in need are reported to us as soon as possible. Since 2022 we have shared our helpline number throughout Delhi - NCR, resulting in the rescue of hundreds of animals each year and an incredible increase in community awareness. When someone in Delhi-NCR spots an injured or ill animal, they can call our Emergency Helpline to report the condition. The number of caring people contacting us to help an animal has grown continuously, with an average of 2-3 animals reported to us each day, and spikes of up to 15 calls. From early morning until past midnight, whenever we receive a report, our helpline team assesses the condition of the animal via video and dispatches our rescue teams so that animals with the most life-threatening problems are given greatest priority. We pick up the animal from its locality, bring them to our partner hospital South Delhi for treatment, and return the animal to its neighborhood once the treatment and healing period is complete. Our in-house diagnostic equipmentās (blood test machine and Xray) ensures timely treatment and faster diagnosis and treatment. Our in-house ambulances have allowed us to attend to hit-and-run cases, along with maggot wounds and gravely sick animals in extreme cases of dehydration and collapse.
